We all have a self to manage; take for example the area of self-motivation. Some people have to deal everyday not just with the “diminisher” kind of boss, but also with the constant inner voice that inflicts a negative self-image. That’s why I discovered that the hardest person for me to lead is myself!
Most companies today look for self-motivated employees; do you know why it is so difficult to find them? because we don’t motivate ourselves…we are waiting for others to do that for us, as if it was their responsibility. It is time for us to take ownership of our motivation.
Now, to lead ourselves we need to know ourselves. John Maxwell says: “To reach your potential, you need to know where you are and where you want to be“. That is called self-awareness. If you are not aware of where you are today, you won’t get any better.
What does awareness mean? it is to make the unconscious conscious, it is not achieving things by chance but by choice. You need to know your strengths, your weaknesses and the opportunities in front of you.
We all have goals in life, the question is: Who is going to lead us to accomplish those goals? The truth is that you cannot achieve your goals all by yourself. You need others! and as you start getting your mind out of yourself and putting others first, you will discover what real success is. Success is going to start looking like adding value to others more than anything else.
A vision gives you the ability to create a picture of where you will be in the future. When you have a dream and establish the direction you need to follow to get there, then that dream becomes a vision. So today, I encourage you to picture yourself there and start leading yourself to the fulfillment of your vision.
